Flat fee divorce services are often used for representation in an uncontested divorce case. Uncontested divorce cases are those in which both parties agree on all the terms of the divorce. Depending on the attorney who offers you the flat fee, the service can include legal advice, preparation of the documents, and taking care of the entire process in court until the judge signs the divorce decree.

The only service not offered for a flat fee is usually litigation. Litigation involves representation in a case on a hourly fee basis. It involves one or more hearings until the divorce trial because you and your spouse cannot agree on any number of issues needing resolution. These litigated divorces can take a year or more.
